Turn word discovery into a classroom routine.
The MetaWords Method™ is a story-driven approach to explicit instruction in meaningful word parts, engineered with third grade as its core audience.
Try a MetaWord Mystery
Join Rudy and Richie for a short interactive lesson. Discover how AUTO means “self,” solve clues, and try a Word Detective challenge.
Selected elementary partner schools and districts will pilot the full routine and teacher resources starting January 2027 prior to broader availability.
Planned Complete Scope: 18 Units Featuring 72 MetaWords
Third-grade reading standards require a pivotal shift from phonics to morphology. The MetaWords Method™ systematically unpacks 72 high-utility Latin and Greek roots, prefixes, and suffixes across 18 cohesive units.
Planned Curriculum Components
Scripted 20-minute daily lesson plans, morphological diagrams, explicit explanations, and formative exit slips for each unit.
Dedicated detective workspaces for word part analysis, morphological tree building, and written language production.
Engaging family word-hunt missions that extend investigative curiosity into home reading and environmental print.
* Note: Curriculum components will debut exclusively with partner pilot schools in January 2027.
The Official 20-Minute Lesson Sequence
Six deliberate stages engineered to move students smoothly from narrative engagement through explicit morphological deconstruction to confident language production.

Official Grade 3 Daily Lesson Architecture — 20 minutes from story hook to independent mastery
Narrative Anchor
Every lesson opens with a brief story context featuring Root Word Rudy. This narrative hook engages student imagination, provides an emotional setting for the word encounter, and primes curious detective thinking before formal definition.
Explicit Root Instruction
The teacher directly introduces the target MetaWord (such as ACT = do, or STRUCT = build). The root meaning is clearly stated and written on the board, and students repeat and define the root together.
Morphological Breakdown
Explicit visual and auditory analysis breaking words apart into root + remainder. Students practice identifying affixes and base roots through brisk call-and-response retrieval.
Guided Word Detective Practice
Students investigate clues using visual anchors, engage in structured partner talk, and test word connections in real time with teacher-guided reinforcement.
Independent Practice
Morphological knowledge becomes active literacy through sentence construction, verbal justification, and purposeful vocabulary transfer into reading and writing.
Retrieval & Exit Check
A brisk, low-stakes formative retrieval moment where students define the root, apply it in context, and demonstrate quick mastery before closing the 20-minute routine.
How the Six Elements Work Together
By harmonizing narrative engagement, explicit direct instruction, rigorous word analysis, guided detective practice, structured language production, and frequent retrieval, the MetaWords Method™ ensures that word knowledge moves from passive recognition into active reading comprehension and spelling fluency.
Looking Ahead: AI Integration
An optional AI support layer is planned for 2027 to complement teacher-led MetaWords Method™ instruction. Details will be announced as development progresses.
Our planned AI layer is designed strictly as an assistive tool for educators, reinforcing classroom instruction rather than replacing human teaching or automating student assessments.
